Spinal Epidural Hematoma following Paddle Lead Placement for Spinal Cord Stimulation
Ha Sang-Woo

Son Byung-Chul
Abstract
Although spinal cord stimulation (SCS) has been known as a safe and effective means for treatment of chronic neuropathic pain, placement of electrode lead in the posterior epidural space can cause technical and biologic, postsurgical complications such as infection or epidural hematoma. Among the biological complications following SCS, spinal epidural hematoma is one of the most dangerous complications causing serious neurologic deficit. However, the report regarding development of postoperative epidural hematoma following SCS is relatively rare. This report represents a case of postoperative spinal epidural hematoma resulting paraplegia following thoracic SCS. Paraplegia was completely recovered with prompt removal of hematoma through decompression.
